Dr Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870 and was Italy’s first female Physician. Montessori approached education not as an educator or a philosopher but as a scientist.
She developed educational materials and methods based on her scientific observations of young children.
She believed that children learn best by doing, rather than by passively accepting information. There was nothing cold or clinical about her theories, they were tailored to the needs of the growing child and developed from Montessori’s intense love and respect for all children.
In our Early Years Department the children are taught using the Montessori approach, which accelerates their love of learning and fully prepares them for the challenges they will encounter in the years to come.
